What We’re Looking For?

Albatros Books is a leading independent children’s book publisher focused on playful, educational, and inspiring books for kids and young readers. Our mission is to publish exceptional titles that spark curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of reading in children.

At Albatros Books, we publish a diverse range of children’s literature, including:

  • Picture books
  • Board books
  • Chapter books
  • Middle-grade fiction
  • Nonfiction for kids
  • Novelty books

We are currently seeking high-quality manuscripts with characters and storylines that children themselves will be interested in, especially books that will make them laugh, wonder, feel deeply, and see the world in new ways. We value excellent storytelling with a strong point of view.

We are especially interested in:

  • Funny, clever, and shareable books for young readers
  • Joyful and imaginative stories that ignite creativity
  • Children’s mysteries (but please, no Sherlock Holmes retellings)
  • Innovative early reader books beyond the “two friends” trope
  • Diverse voices and cultural perspectives, especially when paired with engaging, humorous, or thrilling content
  • High-interest fiction and nonfiction that keeps kids and tweens turning the pages
  • Light magical realism, but not epic fantasy
  • Real-world topics that kids care about, told in fresh, accessible ways
  • Well-sourced, innovative nonfiction for kids, including STEM, social issues, and more
  • Memoirs and personal narratives with a strong, unique voice

If you’re writing for children and want to publish with a press that prioritizes impactful storytelling, diverse representation, and reader engagement, we want to hear from you.

Before submitting, we encourage you to get to know our books and our mission. Understanding what we publish is the best way to see if your work is a strong fit. Please note that we do not accept any material created by AI.

Tips on Writing a Strong Query Letter

A great query letter helps your manuscript stand out. Here’s what to include:

  • A short and compelling summary of your book
  • What makes your story unique or marketable
  • Target age range (e.g., ages 4–8, middle grade 8–12, etc.)
  • How your book fits into today’s children’s book market
  • Any relevant author background or expertise
  • Mention your social media presence, author platform, or any marketing ideas
  • Please avoid describing your book as “the next Harry Potter” or including feedback from family or friends
